TANKER FIRE

SIT REP 1: July 8, 2023, Saturday, 2120 PT

Firefighters from the Tonto National Forest responded on Friday, July 7, 2023, around 1800 hours MDT to a reported brush fire. The fire was sparked by a vehicle fire north of RYE on SR 87 at mile marker 244 (northbound), which is about six miles south of Payson, Arizona.

Firefighters worked throughout the night and day today, strengthening the control lines and working to reach their fire objectives.

Earlier this morning, the fire had scorched 10-12 acres, and fire aviation and ground crews were able to reach a 20% containment status.

The fire was contained at 1232 MDT today.
