SIT REP 1: SATURDAY, JULY 22, 2023, 1830 PT

UPDATE 7/22/2023 1844 PT:

An Emergency Alert System (EAS) evacuation notice was broadcast statewide due to an operator error this evening, Saturday, 7/22/23.

The error in the system has been fixed and the alert will not repeat.

A wildfire named the GOLDEN FIRE has prompted Fire Officials to request a State Mobe (mobilization) of resources across Oregon to respond to another firestorm blazing through their State.

This includes two strike teams released from the OR State Fire Marshal’s office.

Resources assigned to this incident indicate the following:

  • SCOFMG (South Central OR Fire Management Partnership)
  • OR State Fire Marshal
  • Klamath County OEM
  • Klamath County Sheriff’s Office
  • OR State Police

This fire is located on Bly Mountain, about 18 miles east of Klamath Falls and 11 miles north of Bonanza in Klamath County.

The fire was reported just after 1300 hours (1302) today. The cause is unknown and under investigation.

It is estimated at over 200 acres, which is burning on private and BLM-protected lands. There is a 0% containment status at this time.

Evacuations are in effect. Both County, a structural strike team, and OR State Patrol are issuing mandatory evacuation orders.

  • East of Hwy 140 E (Level 3)
  • The area between Polar Bear and Coyote Lane (Level 3)
