NEWLY REPORTED: August 1, 2023, 2320 PT, Tuesday

A wildfire named the YORK FIRE is burning in the New York Mountains on the Mojave National Preserve located in both San Bernardino (CA) and Clark (NV) Counties, which broke out on private land inside of the Preserve on July 28, 2023, at 1209 PT, slopped over into the State of Nevada.

The wildfire has burned about 80,437 acres of timber and brush and has a 23% containment status. About 8,288 acres of the total acres have scorched the Nevada stateside. Fire behavior is currently reported as active but backing down Crescent Peak away from the Nevada border, which is great news.

There are no evacuation notifications or orders in effect at the time of this update.

Mojave National Preserve (NPS) is the Lead Agency, along with assistance from other local, County, and State Fire agencies, which include NPS, BLM, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, and Clark County Fire Departments.

The cause is unknown and under investigation.
