INCIDENT SUMMARY

A wildfire named the Refuge Fire is burning about 40 miles north of Yuma (Yuma County), Arizona, on the Imperial Wildlife Refuge, ignited on Saturday, May 25, 2024, around 1508 hours MDT from arson. The suspect listed as a white male, 42, was immediately arrested by local Police and is now in a Detention Center.

FIRE RESOURCES

There are currently 130 total personnel assigned to this incident, with the Incident Commander listed as Benjamin Stewart with the Central West Zone, a Type 3 IMT Team.

There are three crews, seven engines, one dozer, two helicopters, and additional overhead and support personnel.

CURRENT STATUS

As of today’s update, the fire behavior has been listed as backing, smoldering, and trees torching. It has burned about 1,226 acres of timber and has a 20% containment status.

Currently, there has been no increase in acreage and crews are holding it at its present size. They will continue with their fire suppression objectives and put the fire out.
