Incident Summary
The Salt Fire is burning about seven (7) miles west of Mescalero, New Mexico, which started on June 17, 2024, from an undetermined cause.
Resources
The fire is under the leadership of a CIMT with Incident Commander Mark Bernal at the helm with one (1) camp crew, four (4) Type 1 crews, two (2) Type 2 crews, one (1) Type 2IA crews, one (1) dozer, two (2) Type 6 engines, one (1) Type 1 copters, an overhead team, one (1) water tender as support and 197 total personnel.
Incident Cooperators: Smokey Bear Hotshots: working extremely hard to get sandbags ready for flooding.

Current Status
The fire has burned about 7,939 acres and has a current 84% containment status. Fire Officials are expecting the fire to be fully contained on July 15, 2024.
Fire behavior has been observed as having minimal activity smoldering and limited creeping.
Damage Assessments
One structure has been lost.
