Paint Crossing Fire

The PAINT CROSSING FIRE started on August 7, 2024, around 1504 hours, and is located 10 miles southwest of Throckmorton, Texas. The cause of the wildfire is unknown and under investigation.

Local fire departments responded to the fire and requested Texas A&M Forest Service for additional assistance.

It is currently in Unified Command with Incident Commander S. Tanner with Texas A&M Forest Service and local Fire Departments.

According to Texan Fire Officials, “Wildfire activity is expected to increase in the northern and western regions of the state due to dry vegetation subjected to multiple days of triple-digit temperatures. We have raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to level 2 due to an increase in current and expected wildfire activity across the state.”

The fire has burned about 2,362 acres of grass, mesquite, oak, and juniper fuels. It has a 7% containment status.

Fire behavior has been observed as having minimal activity with some creeping, smoldering, and multiple spot fires. Some heat has been detected along the Clear Fork Brazos River.

There is a total of 63 personnel.

One firefighter was treated by the Emergency Medical Task Force for dehydration. He was transported to the local County hospital for treatment.
