Huckleberry Fire

LEWIS COUNTY, WASHINGTON

A wildfire named the HUCKLEBERRY FIRE is located about 20 miles southwest of Pe Ell (Lewis County), Washington which was reported at 1545 hours PT on September 4th.

This is Incident #WA-PCS-001191.

The cause is unknown and under investigation, according to Fire Officials.

There have been 186 acres of heavy logging slash and timber have been burned and there is a 0% containment status.

There is a total of 230 fire personnel with 15 engines and tenders, as well as seven crews that are assigned to this incident.

Fire behavior is active with the fire burning in recent harvest units, mature timber and one-year-old reproductive timber in steep terrain near the corner of Counties, Lewis, Pacific, and Wahkiakum meet.

Today, Fire Officials monitored the fire’s forward progression while crews established control features and worked on putting out hotspots. There is also a night shift that will continue to engage in fire suppression and patrolling.

A Temporary Flight Restriction or TFR is in effect. This means no one can fly in or around the fire with a drone or UAS.

No roads or trail closures are in effect at the time of this update.

Incident Cooperators include WA DNR, Wahkiakum County Department of Emergency Management, Western Washington Type 3 IMT, Lewis County Fire District #11 Pe Ell, Snohomish County Fire District 21 along with Snohomish Fire, Everett Fire, North County RFA, and Lake Roesiger Fire as part of the Snohomish County Strike Team.

The cost-to-date for fire suppression and containment efforts has reached $322,000.
