ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA — A fire broke out at the Bio Lab Chemical Plant this morning around 0530 hours on the rooftop as stated by Rockdale County Officials during a press release regarding this incident. The small fire was contained by the Fire Department.
As personnel were offloading the product off of the building, the fire reignited around noon today, and large plumes of white, black, and brown columns of toxic smoke filled the air, which was visible from several miles away. Officials say that the product is reacting to the water and that smoke may be seen spewing out of the fire building for days.
An emergency alert from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency Homeland Security on behalf of Rockdale County EMA which issued a Shelter in Place Alert due to a fire at BioLab in Conyers. This was for residents in the north half of the should should remain indoors, close/lock windows and doors, and turn off air conditioners.

Media outlets began reporting about this fire and showing visible clouds of varying colors of toxic smoke filling the air from the pool and spa facility which was said to be full of chlorine at the time.
The Conyers Police Department states there is a shelter-in-place notice in place and will remain until midnight tonight. They are urging folks to only call the Rockdale County EMA Hotline at 770-278-8300 if they have any questions or need assistance.
While some residents were evacuated, while others were told to remain at home.
Some are stating this is the third fire at the plant in seven years.
