The GOOSMUS FIRE is located about five miles northeast of Curlew (Ferry County), Washington, which was human-caused and ignited on September 25th.
Today, the fire is said to be 1,738 acres of grass and timber. It now has a 24% containment status.
Fire Officials have slated the full containment to be fully reached on October 9, 2024. Within Monday’s fire operational period, fire behavior was reported as being as moderate with visible smoke and flames on the interior but not currently threatening well-established fire lines. Over two miles of hose lay has been constructed by crews on the west side of the fire, in addition to crews extinguishing existing smoldering debris. Structure protection is still active in the 4th of July Creek Road area and is currently being provided a Washington State Mobilization Task Force based out of Snohomish County (Strike Team).
Today, crews were tasked with continuing with constructing additional hose lays on the west side of the same type of fire objectives, and some local residents were allowed back into the area. Those repopulating into their communities, should stay focused on emergency vehicles and keep their situational awareness in check in case any fires should rekindle.
