This is the JERICHO MOUNTAIN FIRE
As of 1230 hours PDT, the fire was listed at 30 acres and was said to be a fast-moving fire growing to the south and west.
Private cabins were said to be north of the fire and listed as high-value assets that were being threatened in the area.
Fire Officials were asking folks to stay clear of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail south of Macdonald Pass and north of Lutreell.
Fire Officials state that the Jericho Mountain fire is utilizing aviation while ordering additional heavy equipment to increase the probability of success of containment. The fire is burning in dense, dead hazardous fuels in remote, rugged terrain where barriers to responding to medical emergencies are elevated and the probability of success in containing the fire is low.
Fire management is concentrating aviation resources on the east flank of the fire to minimize spread toward the private residences and keep the fire east of Rimini.
A type 3 team has been ordered.
Weather has been a concern for Fire Managers, stating, “There was recent lightning and rain in the area. Winds are currently calm, and hot and dry weather is anticipated throughout the next week. The fire is burning in heavy dead and down fuels and is actively spreading to the south and west as of the afternoon of June 15th.”
Incident Cooperators include: Macdonald Pass, USFS, Montana DNRC, Baxendale and Elliston Volunteer Fire Departments.
