BLANDING, UTAH — The Westwater Fire is in San Juan County, which ignited in a canyon drainage, making it difficult for crews to attack directly.

As of 1830 hours PDT, the fire had burned an estimated 25-30 acres and had a 0% containment status listed on it.

Local fire agencies were said to be on the scene, along with providing structure protection. There are currently no evacuation orders in effect at the time of this update, per the Sheriff’s Office, but they do say they have heard one barn may have been lost. The Sheriff also has warned people to STAY OUT OF THE AREA as they are impeding firefighting suppression efforts.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
