Several wildfires are burning across the Slave Lake Forest area due to dry, hot, and windy conditions, which are perfect for adverse fire weather. Adverse weather conditions are predicted for this evening to include a chance of thunderstorms and lightning. A shift in wind and temperatures is expected as well.

These are occurring in Alberta, Canada.

CHIPEWYAN LAKE FIRE

The fire is known as Wildfire SWF085 and CHIPEWYAN LAKE FIRE, which is about 138,058 hectares or 341,1849 acres. There is no containment status listed at this time. According to the local Emergency Management agency, firefighters are monitoring the fire from a helicopter. They are reporting little to no fire growth from their last few days of observation. A FLIR was used to identify heat signatures on the west side of the fire.

RED EARTH CREEK FIRE

This fire is also known as Wildfire SWF092, and it is listed as 82,056 hectares or 202,765 acres and is listed near Red Earth Creek and west of Trout Lake. Due to increased fire behavior on the south side of the fire, firefighters were able to complete aerial ignition operations. They will continue working to put out hot spots along containment lines. A two-hour evacuation notice still remains in place.
