The EMIGRANT FIRE started on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from lightning that passed over the Cascades yesterday, sparking many new fire starts.

Location

The fire is burning in the southern portion of the Willamette National Forest, about 22 miles southeast of Oakridge, Oregon. (USA)

Fire Behavior

From the moment the fire started, the behavior would be observed, similar to a fast-burning Roman candle in some of the driest, windiest, and hottest conditions the area has seen in years.

Currently, fire behavior is being recorded as active, characterized by running, torching, and having short crown runs.

Current Status

Quickly, the fire has burned through 1,200 acres of timber and brush. It is listed at a 0% containment status.

Cost to Date

The cost to date for this fire has reached $200,000.
