Published August 30, 2025, Saturday Fire Update @ 1150 PT
A new wildfire ignited from an unknown cause on Friday, August 29, 2025, and has literally exploded and become a firestorm as of today’s update.
The fire is located about 16 miles northeast of Hermiston (Umatilla County), Oregon, and is also said to be near the OR/WA border on SR 730 (Wallula Gap).
Today, the fire has burned through 10,000 acres of grass and has a 0% containment status.
Fire behavior is being observed as moderate.
Evacuations are in effect, and notices have been issued to area residents near the fire.
