A small ground fire was discovered on Monday, April 20, 2015, around 1030 hours PDT by a recon flight after weekend thunderstorms passed. The 100 ft x 25 ft fire was discovered by responding USFS firefighters that lightning struck a tree spreading to two others, with a small ground fire down below burning manzanita and timber litter.
The fire is located near the Kennedy Meadow Trailhead about 15 miles East of Dunlap in the Sequoia National Forest and in the Hume Lake Ranger District’s area.
USFS firefighters fire suppression tactics are to lay a 1,000 ft hose lay which will stop any forward spread. Fire managers say this fire event has a low rate of spread.
Ten [10] fire personnel had arrived and were on scene.
No injuries were reported.
