The Lawyer Fire was detected on August 8th around 1442 hours from lightning.  It is located approximately 10 miles northwest of Queen, NM, near Lawyer Dirt Tank on the Lincoln National Forest, Guadalupe Ranger District.

The Fire is burning in grass, brush and pinyon juniper with flame lengths of 3 – 6 inches.  When it was detected by firefighters, it was approximately a small fire of only two acres but has reached up to 40 acres with a zero containment status.

There are no threats to homes or property.

Resources of one USFS engine with four personnel and one hand crew are on-scene.  A single Type 1 Hotshot Crew was ordered and en route earlier in the day. They will all remain until Wednesday (tomorrow) morning.
