NORTHWEST WILDFIRES | It has been an extremely busy time for those in the State of Idaho with several new starts.  Here is our recap for the  Northwest Region on Sunday, August 6, 2017.

National Fire Preparedness Level is at 4 (with 5 being the highest), as of July 9, 2017.

#BearButteFire (OR) Wallowa – Whitman NF. IMT 2 . 20 miles NW of Baker City. Timber. Active fire behavior with short crowns and group torching.  — 383 acres. 0% containment. — 170 personnel.  2 crews, 27 engines and 3 helos. — $522,000 CTD.

#BlanketCreekFire  (OR) Rouge River-Siskiyou NF. IMT 2 (also managing Spruce Lake Fire). 9 miles NE of Prospect. Timber.  — Active fire behavior, crowning, spotting and running. — 3,852 acres. 27% contained. — 730 personnel. 21 crews, 18 engines and 5 helicopters. — $6.2 Million CTD.

#ChetcoBarFire.  (OR) Rogue River-Siskiyou NF. NIMO. 16 miles East of Selma, OR. Phoenix NIMO. Timber and brush.  Fire has burned into the scars of Biscuit Fire (2002) and Silver Fire (1987).  — Moderate fire behavior with flanking and backing. — 4,341 acres. 12% contained. — 66 personnel. 2 crews and 1 helo. — $1.5 Million CTD.

#DevilsLakeFire (OR) Fremont-Winema NF. 7 miles SE of Bly. Timber and short grass. Moderate fire behavior with creeping, backing and smoldering.  — 1,694 acres. 44% contained.  — 657 personnel. 18 crews, 20 engines and 4 helos. — $2.8 Million CTD.

#DiamondCreekFire    (WA) 18 air miles from Mazama and at the intersection of Diamond Creek and Lost River in the Paysaten Wilderness of the Okanogan-Wenatchee NF.  Started July 22, 2017. Cause is suspected as human intervention. — Moderate fire behavior with up hill runs, torching and spotting. — 8,742 acres. 0% containment. — 162 personnel. 1 crew, 5 engines and 4 helos. — $1.4 Million CTD.

As of August 5, 2017,  Nationally speaking we are at 5,771,813 acres burned!

 #HayesRoadFire (WA). 10 miles NE of Mansfield.  SE WA IMT 2. Brush and tall grass. — Moderate fire behavior — 3,000 acres. 50% contained. — 142 personnel. 39 engines. 2 helos. — 1 structure destroyed. — $196,000 CTD.

#HighlineFire (ID) 12 miles SW of Dixie. Timber. — Active fire behavior with short crown runs, short-range spotting and group torching. — 2300 acres. 0% contained. — 10 personnel. — $15,000 CTD.

#IndianCreekFire (OR)  West side of Eagle Creek Trail.  Between Tunnel Falls and 7.5 mile camp Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness within the Hood River Ranger District of Mt. Hood NF.  NIMO.  — Minimal fire behavior. — 83 acres. 0% containment. — 71 personnel. 1 crew, 2 helos. — $1.4 Million CTD.

3/4 Humans cause preventable wildfires.

#KnotGrassFire (WA) S of Pomeroy (SE part of State) on Asotin and Garfield County line. Grassland, some crops and timber. — 350 acres. 90% contained. — 54 personnel. 1 crew and 11 engines. — 1 structure destroyed. — $69,000.

#LavaFlowFire  (ID) Idaho Falls District, BLM.  7 miles South of Atomic City. Brush and grass. Minimal fire behavior. — 22,651 acres. 75% containment. — 124 personnel. 3 crews, 10 engines, 1 helo. — $850,000 CTD.

#LonePineFire  (ID) Nez – Perce NF. 25 miles NE of Elk City. Below Lone Pine Point in the vicinity of Mink Peak Fire and expected to merge into this wildfire. Lightning caused. Started on July 14, 2017. Type 4 IC managing fire burning naturally.

New! #MammothCaveFire (OR). Extreme fire behavior with wind-driven runs. Evacuations in effect. — 30,000 acres. 0% contained. — 137 personnel. 20 engines and 3 helos. — 3 structures destroyed. — $300,000 CTD.

Fire Fact:

Nationally speaking, there were 44 large fires burning in 7 states with Oregon and Idaho reporting overnight with the most increased fire activity, burned acreage.

#MorganCreekFire (OR) Vale District, BLM. 6 miles NE of Huntington. Brush and short grass. — 2,286 acres. 50% contained. — 123 personnel. 5 crews, 12 engines. — $200,000 CTD.

#NoisyCreekFire  (WA) 3 miles E of Sullivan Lake. Pend Orielle County.  Colville NF. Lightning caused. Start July 15, 2017 @ 0800 hours PDT.  — Active fire behavior with backing, flanking and uphill runs. — 3380 acres. 20% contained. — 156 personnel.  2 crews and 2 helicopters. — $1.9 Million CTD.

#NForkHughesFire  (ID) Panhandle. 20 miles N of Nordman on Priest Lake Ranger District in Upper Hughes Creek drainage and N of Hughes Meadow across from the Washington State line. Lightning cause possibly.

Fire Fact:

Drones flying in the same airspace as Fire Suppression helicopters and planes can not only collide with them, but force them to land or even crash.

 #SpruceLake Fire (OR) Crater Lake National Park. 15 miles SW of Diamond Lake. Timber.   East of Idanha. Timber and brush.   — Moderate fire behavior with spotting, torching and flanking. — 4,668 acres. 9% contained.  — 324 personnel. 14 crews, 4 engines and 2 helos. — $1.7 Million CTD.

Fire Fact:

There are no official rules but first responders generally name a fire after a meadow, creek, city of type of plant they see.

#SuiattleFire  (WA) Near Suiattle River Road. Snohomish County. DNR air and ground resources on-scene. Start July 30, 2017. — Minimal fire behavior. Contained and in mop-up operations on Saturday, August 5, 2017. — 216 acres. — 325 personnel. 8 crews, 11 engines and 3 helos. — $1.8 Million CTD.

#WhitewaterFire (OR). 15 East of Detroit. Active Fire behavior with spotting and group torching. — 54,219 acres. 0% containment. — 393 personnel. 10 crews, 10 engines and 7 helicopters. — $4.5 Million CTD.

Stage 1 burn ban for Washington has been lifted.
