NW ACTIVE WILDFIRES | AUGUST 20, 2017

 Post Summary |  The National Interagency Fire Center reported there were 7 new fires in the NW along with 1 large new incident.  There still remains 13 wildfires burning. Nationally, there were 77 new fires with light initial attack activity. 1 new large incident. 2 large fires contained and 25 fires uncontained.

NOTE: This does not include additional fires being reported in by other sources (Inciweb, DNR, Wildcad, NWCC, NIFC, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, ORDOF, IDDOF and the list goes on).

1. BELNAP FIRE

20 miles NE of Prineville, OR. USDA Forest Service.  Started 8/11/2017.  Lightning caused. Timber Brush. Lightning. 125 acres. 75% contained.  Threatened are 31 single-family residences (SFR), 33 mixed residential/commercial and 90 minor structures. 83 personnel. 3 crews and 1 helicopter..

2. BLEVINS FIRE New!

15 miles SE of Rome, OR. ICT4. Started 8/19/2017. Unknown cause. 1,314 acres. 100% contained. Grass fuel. USDI Bureau of Land Management (BLM).  18 personnel, 1 helos and 3 engines..

3. BRIDGE CREEK FIRE

12 Miles NE of Keller, WA.  Started 8/9/2017. Type 2 IMT, NW Team 6. Lightning caused. 2,015. 27% containment. Timber. Active fire behavior with isolated torching and short-range spotting. Steep and rocky terrain. Burnout operations are in effect. Commercial timber and cultural resources are under threat. 484 personnel. 9 crews, 3 helos and 21 engines. Traffic Alert! Heavy traffic remains on Bridge Creek Road.  Law Enforcement in control of area signals/intersection/etc..

4. CHETCO BAR FIRE 

Kalmiopsis Wilderness and on the Rogue River – Siskiyou NF.  Lightning caused.  Started 7/12/2017. 70,000 acres. 14% contained. 750 SFR and 50 minor structures threatened. 2 homes and 1 minor destroyed. Timber, brush and closed timber litter. USDA Forest Service.  Type 2 IMT and shadowing with NIMO team as of 8/19/2017. Was in Unified Command with a NIMO, Type 2 IMT and Coos Fire Protection Association.  280 personnel. 6 crews. 3 helos. 12 engines.  Estimated containment is 10/15/2017..

5. DIAMOND CREEK FIRE

 27 miles NNW of Winthrop, WA.  Timber, brush. Unknown cause and is under investigation. Started 7/23/2017. 30,524 acres. 27% contained. 1 home and 1 minor structures destroyed.  1 minor structure damaged. 3 homes, 3 minor structures are being threatened. USDA Forest Service.  382 personnel. 10 crews, 2 helos and 18 engines. Closures are in effect.  Estimated containment is 10/15/2017..

 

6. FALCON COMPLEX

25 miles East of Tiller, OR.   Type 2 IMT, NW Team 8.  Started 8/8/2017. Lightning caused. 2,200 acres. 17% contained. 5 homes and 15 minor structures being threatened. USDA Forest Service. 491 personnel. 10 crews, 22 engines and 4 helos. Consist of multiple fires including the Upper Ash Flat Fire (1,316 acres), Double Buck Fire (304 acres) and the Paradise Fire (291 acres) are the largest of the 15 wildfires.  Estimated containment status is 8/30/2017..

7. FLOUNCE FIRE

12 miles NW of Shady Cove, OR.   8/7/2017 start date. Timber, brush and tall grass. Lightning caused. 597 acres. 94% contained. USDI BLM. 122 personnel. 6 crews, 4 engines and 1 helo. Estimated containment is 8/20/2017..

8. HEADWATER FIRE 

25 miles North of Goldendale, WA.  Started on 8/12/2017 from an unknown cause & is under investigation. Unknown fire behavior. 92 acres. 90% contained. Timber (grass & understory). WA DNR. 218 personnel. 6 crews and 12 helicopters. Estimated time for full containment was on 8/18/2017..

9. HIGH CASCADES COMPLEX

9 miles NE of Prospect, OR.  Started 8/12/2017. 11,246 acres. 61% containment. Spruce Creek Fire (5,350 acres), Silent Fire (2 acres), Blanket Creek Fire (5,686 acres), Butte Fire (5 acres), Broken Lookout Fire (125 acres), Roundtop Fire (10 acres), Needle Fire (8 acres), Sherwood Fire (65 acres). USDA Forest Service. 897 personnel. 27 crews, 17 engines and 6 helicopters.   Estimated containment is 8/31/2017..

10. INDIAN CREEK FIRE

Eagle Creek Trail System, OR.  Started 7/4/2017. Unknown cause. 83 acres. 10% contained. Timber (litter and understory). USDA Forest Service.  47 personnel. 1 crew and 2 helicopters. Weather Outlook:  Fire weather expected to dry out and warm up this week.  Estimated containment date is 9/30/2017..

11. JOLLY MOUNTAIN FIRE

13 miles NW of Cle Elum, WA. 8/11/2017 start date. Lightning caused.  Timber. 585 acres. 0% containment. 1,385 homes, 13 mixed commercial/homes and 1,403 minor structures threatened. USDA Forest Service.  281 personnel. 4 crews, 5 helos and 10 engines.  Estimated containment status is 10/15/2017..

12. JONES FIRE

10 miles NE of Lowell, OR.  8/10/2017 started. Lightning caused. USDA Forest Service. IMT2, NW Team. 4,959 acres. 10% containment. 4 homes and 1 minor structure threatened. USDA Forest Service.  558 personnel. 17 crews, 2 helos and 15 engines. Estimated containment status is on 10/31/2017..

13. MILLER COMPLEX

17 miles East of Cave Junction, OR.  Started 8/14/2017. Lightning caused. Rogue River – Siskiyou NF. IMT Type 2, CA Team 2. Made up of 20 individual fires.  7,874 acres. 4% containment.  14 homes and 5 minor structures threatened.  Fires included Burnt Peak Fire (1,524 acres), Creedence Fire (1,571 acres), Abney Fire (1,178 acres), Seattle Fire (833 acres) and 19 additional smaller wildfires. USDA Forest Service. 432 personnel. 9 crews. 20 engines. Estimated containment is 9/30/2017..

14. MILLI FIRE

Burning along 16 Road (South of) and 9 miles West of Sisters, OR.  Started 8/11/2017. Lightning caused. Located in Three Sisters Wilderness and about 1.5 miles SW of Black Crater Lake. Timber. IMT1 (SW Team / OSF Green Team) IC is also managing the Belknap Fire. 9,331 acres. 0% contained. 1,004 homes threatened. USDA Forest Service.  487 personnel. 10 crews, 2 helos and 16 engines. Evacuation orders (Level 3) issued for Edgington, Crossroads divisions and isolated structures South of Sisters, OR.  Hwy 242 is closed from Sisters to the observatory road.  Level 1 evacuation order given to those in the Tollgate subdivision. Estimated containment date is 101/2017..

15. MONUMENT HILL FIRE

Started on private land about 5 miles NE of Quincy, WA.  Tall grass and brush. Started 8/16/2017. WA Fire Service. Cause under investigation.  6,255 acres. 4 homes and 15 minor structures were damaged.  3 homes and 20 minor structures were destroyed. 50 hoes, 25 non-residential commercial buildings are threatened.  WA Fire Service. 120 personnel. 3 helicopters and 30 engines. 100% fire has been contained..

16. NENA SPRINGS FIRE

7 air miles NE of Simnasho and on the NE Boundary of Warm Springs Indian Reservation, OR.  Started 8/8/2017. USDA BIA. Grass, timber, dormant brush.  Human caused, under investigation. 68,135 acres. 40% contained. 50 homes, 1 non-residential commercial and 50 minor structures threatened. 1 home and 3 minor damaged. 6 homes, 4 minor structures destroyed. USDI BIA.  224 personnel. 5 crews, 1 helo and 27 engines. Estimated containment was expected on 8/16/2017..

17. NOISY CREEK FIRE

33 miles from Colville, WA. Started 8/11/2017.   Lightning caused. USDA Forest Service. 1,662 acres. 6% contained.  110 homes threatened. USDA Forest Service.  219 personnel. 5 crews, 2 helos and 7 engines. Level 3 evacuations in effect for Union Creek and Pleasant Valley.  Level 1 in Goose Prairie and Bumping Lake.  Total 9 wildfires burning including Norse Peak Fire (see separate posting),  American Fire (150 acres), Union Creek Trail Fire (20 acres) are the largest of them all.

18. NORSE PEAK FIRE

11 miles West of Cliffdell and burning inside the Norse Peak Wilderness in WA. (includes 4 fires) Started 8/11/2017. Lightning caused. Timber.  USDA Forest Service.  Type 2 IMT, NW Team 13. 1,540 acres (increased by 25 acres overnight). 6% containment status. Active fire behavior.  Structures and species habitat are threatened. Evacuations in effect..

29. NORTH PELICAN FIRE

21. REBEL FIRE

13 miles South of McKenzie Bridge, OR.  Started unknown. USDA Forest Service. Started 8/4/2017. Cause unknown.  2,319 acres. 0% containment. 4 homes threatened. USDA Forest Service. 295 personnel. 10 crews. 10 engines. Includes multiple fires Whitewater Fire (7,599 acres), Little Devil Fire (133 acres), Avenue Fire (57 acres), Box Canyon Fire (27 acres), Olalllie Lookout Fire (57 acres), Separation Fire (268 fires), Roney Fire (90 acres) and French Fire (8 acres).  Estimated containment status is 9/30/2017..

22.  SEPARATION FIRE New Name!

23. SHAN CREEK FIRE

10 miles West of Grants Pass, OR.  Started 8/10/2017. Timber and Logging slash.  Lightning. 156 acres. 85% contained. USDA Forest Service.  180 personnel. 3 crews and 14 engines. Estimated date to full containment is 9/1/2017..

24. STALEY FIRE

23 miles South of Oakridge, OR.  Willamette NF. Lightning caused. Started 8/10/2017.  831 acres. 0% contained.  Timber and brush. USDA Forest Service.  256 personnel. 8 crews. 11 engines. Type 2 IMT, NW9 IC.  Expected containment date is 9/30/2017..

25. UMPQUA NORTH COMPLEX

50 miles East of Roseburg, OR. Started 8/11/2017. Cause unknown, under investigation. Unified Command with IMT1, AK Team, Douglas FPA.  6,878 acres. 1% containment. (increased 3,346 acres overnight). Timber. Multiple fires. Happy Dog Fire (2,699 acres), Fall Creek Fire (1,723 acres), Ragged Ridge Fire (588 acres), Oak Nob Fire (59 acres), Calf – Copeland Fire (416 acres), Broken Tooth Fire (331 acres) and Devils Canyon Fire (325 acres).  36 homes, 21 non-residential commerci and 30 minor structures threatened. Active fire behavior with long-range spotting. Structures and power line infrastructure is under threaten.  USDA Forest Service.  760 personnel. 18 crews, 3 helos and 55 engines. Evacuations are in effect.  Estimated containment date is 8/15/2017..

26. WHITEWATER FIRE

15 miles East of Detroit, OR.  Started 7/23/2017. Lightning ignited. Multiple fires. Timber, brush. USDA Forest.  7,984 acres. 0% contained.  113 homes, 1 mixed commercial/residential, 2 non-residential commercial properties and 46 minor structures threatened.  631 personnel. 14 crews. 9 helos and 13 engines. Estimated containment date is 10/31/2017.
