INCIDENT SUMMARY

The Washburn Fire is burning near the lower portion of the Mariposa Grove, which ignited on July 7, 2022.

According to Yosemite National Park fire officials, their communications center received multiple 9-1-1 calls at 1404 hours PT, reporting smoke visible from the lower Mariposa Grove area, near the Washburn trail inside the Yosemite National Park.

 Located in the southern portion of Yosemite, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is the largest sequoia grove in Yosemite and is home to over 500 mature giant sequoias.

EVACUATIONS

Evacuations are in effect for Wawona community and Wawona Campground.

THREATENED

The Redwoods

According to The Redwoods in Wawona Yosemite National Park, the fire began to threaten Wawona last night around 2040 hours PT forcing everyone in the town of Wawona, including those who are residents, guests, and staff to evacuate the area.

SAFE AND WELL

The staff of the Dinkey Creek Inn and General Store wish to let those know they are safe and well and the fire is not impacting them at this time. They are getting inundated by calls to see if they are okay. They are asking the public to stop calling about questions related to the fire or if they are in danger. They are well.
