A wildfire fire named the CORKSCREW CANYON FIRE was originally reported as a smoke check call at 1436 hours this Sunday afternoon and has now been confirmed by the local fire agency, Stevens County Fire District #1 as an active fire incident.

The two-acre fire is located near the top of a mountain peak off of George Road (Corkscrew Canyon area). This is approximately 11.8 miles ESE of Nine Mile Falls; 13.4 miles NNW from Camas; 15.3 miles ENE and about 16.8 miles SSE from Airway Heights in Washington State.

Resources, according to WA DNR’s Wildcad.net site state AR 26 AR 64 AR 7410 AR 7413 H 344 SPA 1261 were all on the fire scene around 1520 hours.

Fire behavior has been observed by Officials as not moving very fast but with more resources including a helicopter en route.

No evacuation notices or orders have been issued as there are currently no threats, according to the Fire Department.
