UPDATE 1: Published Sunday, May 28, 2023, 1900 hours PT
Residents, businesses, and others are today, notably running from wildfire which seems to be taking on the whole new meaning of Firestorm, as multiple wildfires rage on in Nova Scotia, Canada. Here is a recap of current fires that are burning in this province.
BARRINGTON LAKE FIRE

This wildfire is considered out-of-control and is located in Shelburne County, which has burned about 1,354 hectares (3,345 acres). Weather is currently ripe for new fire starts which include hot, dry, and windy conditions which are also posing challenges for resources: 35 DNRR and 50 volunteer firefighters, heavy equipment, two helicopters, six NB air tankers, and one overhead team.

One remote cabin has been destroyed and unknown on the other two structures have been. Volunteer firefighters are currently providing structure protection.
Evacuations are in effect and efforts are being made possible by the RCPMP Nova Scotia, Ground search and rescue teams, and the Emergency Management Office.
These include the Haliburton Hills, Glen Arbour, Pockwock Road, White Hills subdivision, Lucasville Road all the way to Sackville Drive.
Officials are warning of possible power outages, and campfires as being banned in provincial parks in the western portion of the area.
WESTWOOD HILLS FIRE
The Westwood Hills Fire is burning in the Westwood Hills subdivision in Upper Tantallion in Nova Scotia, Canada. About 10 homes have been destroyed by the fire and a lot of fire images and scary videos have been posted online through Social Media.
Evacuation shelters are located in these areas:
- Black Point and Area Community Centre at 8579 St Margarets Bay Road. The comfort centre is open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Canada Games Centre at 26 Thomas Raddall Drive. The comfort centre is open until further notice.
- Beaver Bank Kinsac Community Centre at 1583 Beaver Bank Road. The comfort centre is open beginning at 9 p.m. and will be open until further notice.
Smoke coming from this fire is now impacting the Halifax area.
