SIT REP 4: July 17, 2023, 2030 PT

INCIDENT SUMMARY: The RABBIT FIRE started on July 14, 2023, at 1530 hours PT as a brush fire, and is now considered a full-blown wildfire burning 8,283 acres of grass and brush with resources reaching a 45% containment status.

CAUSE: The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation.

LOCATION: The fire is burning northeast of Gilman Springs Road and Jack Rabbit Trail and one mile from Eden in Lakeview (Riverside County), California.

PERSONNEL: There is a total of 1,578 total personnel along with seven copters, 172 engines, 15 dozers, 20 water tenders, 30 crews, and four others which are assigned to this incident.

INCIDENT COOPERATORS: Incident Cooperators include those from the CHP, Caltrans, CA DOC, Beaumont PD, USFS, and BIA. CAL FIRE/Riverside County FD (Lead Agency), LAFD, ALERT California, Uc San Diego, Jacobs School of Engineering, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Qual Comm Institute, AccuWeather, and the American Red Cross.

CURRENT STATUS: Fire Officials report there has been minimal fire behavior with smoldering in heavy fuels being observed during the day. Containment lines have been constructed. The fire will be in patrol operations, in search of any hot spots.

REOPENED: SB Hwy 79 from Gilman Springs to Beaumont Avenue.

CLOSED: County Landfill Road, Jack Rabbit Trail, Bridge Street, California Avenue, Between East 1st Street and Hwy 79.

EVACUATIONS are still in effect: East of Jack Rabbit Trail. North of Gilman Springs and Potrero Reserve. West of Hwy 79.
