SEATTLE — Firefighters with the Seattle Fire Department were dispatched to a fire last night just before ringing in the New Year this Monday morning.

The fire was located in the 1400 block of South Main Street, which included assigned SFD units, A10 A14 AIR10 B2 B5 DEP1 E10 E25 E30 E5 E6 L1 L10 L3 M10 M44 MAR5 R1 REHAB1 SAFT2 and STAF10 that were dispatched around 2300 hours PST.

We picked up live coverage on our Twitter Page @nwfireblog around 2314 hours on Sunday night, when firefighters were on the scene and had just completed their 360* of the building. The fire was located on the Charlie side of the Bravo exposure building’s basement. Water was quickly put on the fire.

The fire in the basement was quickly knocked down and searches (primary/secondary) were completed of the basement, floors one and two with nothing found. Command quickly observed black smoke pouring out of the Bravo exposure on the Delta side.

Some obstacles were obvious challenges for fire crews entering the interior of one of the buildings where hanging wires (power not secured at this point) posed a danger to firefighters and locating a contents fire in the basement. Radio traffic indicated a heavy fire load and firefighters were busy pumping in both water and foam to wet down the debris. This is also to ensure the fire does not rekindle and is completely out before going back into service/leaving the scene.

Firefighters remained on the scene, one hour into the incident while Marshal 5, Seattle’s Fire Investigator entered the building for his investigation. The preliminary cause is unknown at this time.

It is also unknown if there were any reported injuries to civilians or to firefighters.
