The McCain Fire is burning on I-8 westbound at McCain Valley Road in San Diego County, California which ignited on July 1, 2024, at 1534 hours PT.

There are 223 total personnel along with 14 engines, 10 other resources, four (4) copters, two (2) dozers, two (2) water tenders, and seven (7) crews. Additional aviation assets are flying on the fireline from various locations across the State as needed.

No structures have been reported as damaged or destroyed by the fire, however, there has been one confirmed fire personnel or civilian reported as injured.

Incident Cooperators include the following: San Diego County FD, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), California Highway Patrol (CHP), San Diego County Sheriff’s Office (SDSO), CalTrans, CA Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), San Diego County Office of Emergency Services (SDCOES), California State Parks and the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CA DFWS).

Strike Teams include the Miramar, San Diego, and Chula Vista areas.

All evacuation warnings and road closures in the Boulevard area are now lifted, according got the SDSO.

The wildfire was last at 1,362 acres and had a 30% containment status.

Cost-to-date has reached $815,000.00 for fire suppression and containment efforts expenses.
