INCIDENT SUMMARY

This is another new wildfire incident in Oregon. The Red Fire was ignited by lightning on July 17, 2024, and is located 10 miles northeast of Diamond Lake in the Diamond Lake Wilderness; and about 18 miles west of Crescent (Klamath County), Oregon.

STAFFING

The Southern Area Gray IMT assumed command on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 0600 hours led by Incident Commander Fulton Jeansonne. There are 90 fire personnel with a single-hand crew assigned to this incident.

CURRENT STATUS

The fire has burned about 138 acres of timber/closed timber litter and the incident has a 0% containment status. Active fire behavior has been observed with running, flanking, and backing activities.

FIRE OPERATIONS

Firefighters will continue to build today on prior suppression efforts and opportunities close to the current fire footprint in the Diamond Peak Wilderness and also continue performing structure assessments in the communities on the east side of the fire around Odell Lake, Crescent Lake Junction, and Crescent Lake. In addition, work will start on a shaded fuel break on National Forest land west of those communities and outside of Wilderness, as released by Fire Officials on the Central OR Fire Info Media page.

EVACUATIONS

None according to the agency.

The cost-to-date for this new incident has reached $32,000.
