Park Fire | August 7, 2024 | 2055 PT

INCIDENT SUMMARY | The PARK FIRE continues to burn this evening in four California Counties: Butte, Tehama, Shasta, and Plumas which started on July 24, 2024, at 1452 hours PT according to CAL FIRE Officials. The originating location was said to be approximately four miles northeast of Chico (Butte County)in the Upper Bidwell Park area.

CAUSE | Arson. The suspect allegedly starting the Park Fire according to the Sheriff’s Office was reported by local media as appearing in court for the second in the same week (last). It was said that he would be reporting again to court for another hearing.

SIZE UP | It has now burned about 425,360 acres and has a 34% containment status.

  • 107,116 acres | Lassen National Forest lands
  • 369,987 acres | Tehama County properties/lands
  • 52, 937 acres | Butte County properties and lands

COMMAND | The incident is still in Unified Command between CAL FIRE Butte and Tehama-Glen Units and the Lassen National Forest.

RESOURCES | The resources assigned include:

  • 6,616 personnel
  • 32 helicopters
  • 513 engines
  • 188 dozers
  • 180 water tenders
  • 144 crews
  • 129 other assigned resources

INCIDENT COOPERATORS

  • New Waverly FD: New Waverly and MCESD#2 – Montgomery Fire Department Firefighters are wrapping up their first week on the Park Fire in Northern California. Plans are underway to rotate the current crew back home next week with a fresh crew taking their place on the fire lines. (8/7/2024 1746PT)
  • California Conservation Corps: They are helping to complete fuel reduction projects. These were done in the months before the fire, they have also partnered with the Butte County Fire Safe Council to clear potential fire fuel from around parts of Paradise Lake and Paradise and Magalia.

FIRE OPERATIONS | CAL FIRE crews continue to egress on the fire while working in steep drainages, high heat, working to construct direct and indirect lines, and being forced to wade through dry, thick timber that has dead and down fuels, making it challenging.

DAMAGE ASSESSMENT | This is the damage assessment report for this wildfire broken down in areas.

  • Butte County: 47 damaged, 428 destroyed structures
  • Tehama County: 5 damaged, 212 destroyed structures
  • Totals: 636 destroyed and 49 damaged structures
  • 100% damage assessments by the Damage Inspection Teams have been completed.
  • Cost-to-date: 122.6 Million Dollars
