Merna Butte Fire

The MERNA BUTTE FIRE is one of Wyoming’s newest fire starts and this one is burning at Merna Butte off of Horse Creek Road in Sublette County and is about 18 miles northwest of Daniel, Wyoming in the Big Piney Ranger District.

It started as a small wildfire last evening August 9, 2024, as reported by the Sheriff’s Office at 0630 hours.

Earlier this morning, it was reported as a 35-acre fire and quickly spreading.

According to the USFS, firefighters were busy today working to suppress the fire and keep it from moving towards threatened infrastructure against the Forestry boundary. Retardant as seen in this photo is around the perimeter and working to build containment lines. This is to help slow the progression of the fire.
