Per Fire Officials with CAL FIRE, “Last night, firefighters kept the fire within its current footprint, strengthening containment lines and securing areas that show concentrated heat on the northwest flank southeast of Jackson Lake. Favorable weather conditions are still allowing firefighters to go direct along the fire’s edge to prevent further spread toward the Mile High and Paradise Springs. We were able to gain containment above Vincent Gap, as firefighters are confident the fire will not move in that area.
Rollout of burning material in steep terrain is still a hazard on the northwestern flank south of the Mescal Picnic Area. Generally, fire behavior in that area has been similar to that of a prescribed fire with minimal torching of trees while consuming understory fuels.
Falling modules and other firefighting personnel continue falling fire-weakened trees, mopping up, and patrolling in recently repopulated communities.
On the east flank, crews have continued their success in halting the fire’s spread into the drainages northwest of Lytle Creek, adding additional black line to the map on and around Dawson Peak.
On the south and west flanks, crews continue gaining ground by completing secondary containment lines and will soon be turning their focus on suppression repair of these lines.” – CAL FIRE Officials
About 4,409 structures are still under threat.
There are 2,591 total CAL FIRE personnel along with 15 copters, 120 engines, 31 bulldozers, 17 water tenders and 63 crews assigned.
There are reports of 19 structures damaged and 81 buildings destroyed, with four confirmed injuries to first responders, and/or civilians.
Approximately, 54,795 acres have been scorched and today, there is a 53% containment status listed.
