Goosmus Fire

According to our multiple (verified) fire sources, the GOOSMUS FIRE officially started on private land Wednesday night September 25, 2024, around 1448 hours PT, whereas, another fire agency reported the fire ignited today at 1430 hours. We have reached out to them as we are showing three other sources reporting the wildfire as of yesterday. It’s a little confusing but we are going to go with the start date on September 25, 2024.

This is Incident #WA-NES-002063.

The fire originated about 4.5 miles south of Danville (Ferry County) and five miles northeast of Curlew, Washington State.

With this being said, multiple evacuation levels were issued on Operations Day 1, which included Levels 3 (GO NOW) for all of 4th of July Creek and Level 2 (BE READY) for residents along Hwy 21 and North of Big Goosmus Rd to the Canadian Border, but were said to be downgraded to a Level 1 (BE AWARE).

The fire has burned over 1,700 acres of grass, timber, and brush and has a 0% containment status.

There are about 250 total personnel with one helicopter and eight engines, under the leadership of IC Andrew Stenbeck.

Wildcad.net reporting dispatched resources on 9/25/2024 at 1447: HI 60, E 21, DZ 7150, W Uplnd 10, DNR 33, HI 7109, were initially deployed.

Additional Resources dispatched 9/25/2024 at 1447 hours PT: HI 60, HI 7111, HI 7107 , E 21, DZ 7150, E 611, HI 25 , HI 30, HI 7106, SO 25, DZ 7250, E 22, W Uplnd 10, W Zone 10, DNR 33, HI 7109, and C 7340, were listed when the fire had burned about 1,000 acres.

At 1500 acres, more resources were sent to the fireline which included: HI 60, HI 7111, HI 7107 , E 21, DZ 7150, E 611, HI 25 , HI 30, HI 7106, SO 25, DZ 7250, E 22, W Uplnd 10, W Zone 10, DNR 33, HI 7109, and C 7340.

All resources, personnel and equipment arrived on the fireline around 1501 hours PT according to wildcad.net.

About 75 single residences, five mixed commercial/residential, and 75 other minor structures are currently being threatened.

Due to a great wetting storm that passed over, firefighters were able to work on multiple fire objectives, slowing the forward progression of the fire.

The cost-to-date for fire suppression and containment efforts has reached $100,000.

CANADIAN FIRE UPDATES/RESOURCES

At 0900 hours Wednesday afternoon, a spot fire was detected on the Canadian border side in the Sleepy Hollow area, west of Grand Forks which is being held. Another fire update will be released tomorrow morning.
