The EATON FIRE was sparked by an unknown cause on January 7, 2025, at 1818 hours PT, after the PALISADES FIRE on the same day would quickly become a more devastating and destructive fire than the first notable wildfire.
The causes of both wildfires are unknown and are under investigation.
A new Disaster Recovery Center will be opening in Altadena on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, from 9 AM to 8 PM and will be available to residents seven days a week. The new center will be located at 540 West Woodbury Road, Altadena, CA 91001.
The Eaton Fire ignited near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive in Altadena / Pasadena, prompting immediate life-safety evacuations of residents, businesses, and pets/livestock. Some shelters remain open.
The fire’s location is about four miles northeast of Pasadena (Los Angeles County), California.

Today, most mutual resources and equipment have been released from the incident and returned to their respective agencies. The management of the incident has been transferred from the CAL FIRE IMT 3 and moved back to the local fire unit, the Los Angeles County Fire. CAL OES will remain engaged and oversee the recovery effort with impacted communities, communications, and restoration of services.

At the time of this update, the fire had damaged 1,073 and destroyed 9,418 structures.
If that was not enough, the fire killed 17 and caused nine injuries. The cost-to-date for fire suppression and containment efforts has reached 92.1 Million Dollars.
About 14,021 acres have been scorched but it now has a 95% containment status.
