HANGING ROCK FIRE | SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 2025

The Hanging Rock Fire is said to be contained but here is what we know about this brush fire, which broke out on March 21, 2025, near the Hanging Rock roundabout and Route 311 in the Masons Cove area in Craig County, Virginia.
This morning’s NIFC Fire update (earlier this morning), stated the fire behavior was still listed as active with running and flanking and threatening homes. However, shortly thereafter it appears firefighters successfully have fully contained the fire.

The fire had burned 88 acres.
Fire resources and personnel responded from Roanoke County Fire & Rescue (36 personnel), the Virginia Department of Forestry, and the United States Forest Service. Two bulldozers were also actively building containment lines on Saturday, March 22, 2025, which had made great improvements in stopping the spread of the fire to area fuels.
No structures were lost, nor were there any injuries or displacements of residents, according to local Fire Officials.
Approximately 26 total personnel were shown as assigned to this incident with no specific resources listed.
The total cost-to-date has reached $7,000.
