TARKIO FIRE – JULY 2025 FIRE UPDATES

LOLO NATIONAL FOREST — A new wildfire has ignited, and U.S. Forest Service firefighters and resources are responding to the fire located south of I-90 adjacent to the Tarkio exit.

It is about 10 miles west of Alberton and 13 miles southeast of Superior, Montana.
It is approximately four to five acres in size.
Resources on the scene include four engines, one water tender, one initial attack module, and one helicopter.
Incident Cooperators include the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, Lolo National Forest (USFS), Montana DOT, and AccuWeather.
The current weather report as of 1808 hours PDT, is showing current temps are 87°F with pressure of 29.84 in and falling slowly. The windspeed is 12 miles per hour with gusts up to 24 miles per hour. The humidity is at 195.
Preliminary reports released from various outlets state that the fire may have started from a power line in windy conditions. The power went out but was quickly restored within one hour of the initial outage reports.
