INCIDENT SUMMARY

The GIFFORD FIRE, burning in two counties of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara, continues to burn today, after its start date and time on August 1, 2025, at 1544 hours PT.

It is also located about 15 miles northeast of Santa Maria, California.

CAUSE

The cause is still being listed as undetermined.

CURRENT STATUS

The fire has burned about 131,614 acres, and there is a 95% containment status, which is great news for this almost-month-long dangerous incident. It has caused five structures to be lost, three civilian and 12 firefighter injuries.

Fire behavior is minimal with smoldering and creeping, with mop-up ops in effect. However, with rising temperatures, fire officials state they have observed some heat in the interior.

The fire is in Unified Command with CAL FIRE and CIIMT8.

The incident currently is seeing 1,874 total personnel with six helos, 70 engines, 57 dozers, 32 water tenders, 30 crews, and 675 other assigned resources.
