SEATTLE–Remember that infamous quote, “April showers bring May Flowers”? Well this month in the City of Seattle, they have had quite a busy month but doesn’t seem out of the norm. Here is a run-down of April fires and other incidents.

In 2023, Firefighters, EMTs, and Medics responded to 111,319 incidents with increased calls for service from 2022, when it was 106,453.


APRIL 23, 2024

3200 Block of SW Graham Street (West Seattle)Dryer Fire

SFD Firefighters and equipment were dispatched this evening to what appeared to be a structure fire turned dryer fire in the townhome. Crews were able to quickly put the fire out and assist with venting the structure of smoke. No injuries were reported and some units were already going back into service.

14000 Block of Aurora Avenue North – Room Fire

A fire ignited inside a room in a residential building, which was extinguished by the structure’s interior sprinkler system. First responders were quickly put back into service to be ready and available for the next dispatched call. Seattle DOT released a traffic alert, letting drivers that North 141st Street was partially blocked in the right southbound lane and to use caution.

APRIL 22, 2024

8000 Block of Seaview Avenue Northwest – Windsurfer in Distress

Firefighters and resources were dispatched in the evening to the area after receiving reports of a windsurfer in distress offshore near this address. It was determined that the windsurfer had reached the shore on their own and was uninjured. Resources were back in service rapidly.

APRIL 21, 2024

900 Block of North 143rd Street – Structure Fire

A fire ignited in a residential building which was determined to be a small fire contained to one unit on the sixth floor of an apartment building. Ventilation was conducted. The preliminary cause of the fire was not released but was said to be still under investigation by the Fire Investigator. No injuries were reported.

APRIL 20, 2024

5900 Block of Lake Washington Boulevard South – Subject in Distress (water)

First responders were called to a report of a person in distress in the water near this address and were assisted to shore by a kayaker. A second patient was helped by a nearby boater and a third patient was assisted by an SFD swimmer along with a boater who rescued the person who was about 300 feet offshore and removed them from the water safely. All three were considered to be uninjured, therefore, none of them needed to be transported to a healthcare facility.

Units dispatched: A14 R1 E25 L5 E5 at 1513 hours PDT.

2000 Block of West Garfield (West Seattle) – Ammonia Leak

A HAZMAT incident occurred but was later deemed to be safe for those in the area when it was reported an ammonia leak inside the building. Firefighters who responded deemed that the leak was on the exterior of the building and checked the levels in the area before calling an all-clear. There were no harmful levels detected while they monitored the situation before allowing folks to reenter the structure.

2900 Block of South Willow Street – Structure Fire

A fire response to this address for a structure fire prompted firefighters and equipment to be dispatched but found there was no visible fire at this location. They were quickly put back into service ready for their next call in the City.

1700 Block of Summit Avenue – Structure Fire

A call was made to the Fire Alarm Center (Fire Dispatch) for a fire burning inside an apartment building which was confirmed by resources of a working fire. Water was immediately put on the fire. Primary and secondary searches were completed with one patient located and treated by Medics. It was unknown if they were transported to an area hospital but they were listed in stable condition. The cause of the fire was said to still be under investigation.

APRIL 19, 2024

600 Block of North 130th Street – Structure Fire

A fire ignited from an unknown cause at this location but was abruptly knocked down by the sprinkler system Firefighters were able to stop it from extending to other parts of the structure and contained it to a single unit on the first floor. The fire was brought under control. A primary and secondary search was completed throughout the structure with nothing found. Fire crews completed the overhaul and put out hot spots. No injuries were reported.

APRIL 18, 2024

1300 Block of North 38th Street – Structure Fire

A fire that appears to be around the same block as the day before is responding to the 1300 block yet again. This is a different apartment complex and SFD crews are responding to another apartment fire. Water is put on the fire and primary/secondary searches are completed with nothing found. The fire was contained in the basement with the fire being under investigation. No cause was released.

3200 Block of South Ferdinand Street – House Fire

South Seattle Firefighters responded to a house fire which was located in the basement. Water was poured over the fire. There was a primary and secondary search of the structure and nothing was found. There was no preliminary cause released. No injuries were reported to firefighters or civilians.

APRIL 15, 2024

7600 Block of 8th Avenue Northwest – House Fire

Two patients were listed in stable condition after being injured during a fire in the basement of this residence. The SFD PIO stated that was brought under control pretty fast. Searches of the structure found it was all clear. No other injuries were reported. AMR transported the two patients to area local hospitals.
