INCIDENT SUMMARY. The Darlene 3 Fire started on June 25, 2024, from an undetermined cause that is burning about one (1) mile southeast of La Pine, Oregon.

COMMAND. Currently, the Command is Unified with the OR State Fire Marshal’s Red Team and ODF.

RESOURCES. There are currently a total of 335 fire personnel with five (5) crews, 38 engines, five (5) copters, eight (8) water tenders, six (6) task forces – structural firefighters, and an unknown number of aviation assets.

INCIDENT COOPERATORS. A few of the Incident Cooperators assigned to this incident represent the Oregon Fire Marshal Office, Yamhill County (Structural Task Force), BLM Oregon & Washington – Prineville District, McMinnville Professional Firefighters Local 3099, Black Butte Ranch FD, Heartland Ambulance Service, La Pine Firefighters and ODF.

CURRENT STATUS. At the time of this PM update, the fire has burned about 3,889 acres of timber and has a 30% containment status. Fire behavior has been observed as active with wind-driven runs and short-range spotting.

SHELTERS. An American Red Cross shelter is located at the La Pine HS at 51633 Coach Road in La Pine. A Parking facility for RVs and to receive meals is located at the La Pine Activity Center at 16450 Victory Way. For Livestock & Companion Animals, an animal shelter is located at the La Pine Rodeo Grounds. Cats & dog boarding is available at the Bed Pet Resort located at 60909 SE 27th St in Bend or you can call 458-666-7505.

FIRE OPS. Currently, firefighters are working to strengthen existing lines with dozers, crews, and engines as well as structure protection.

LEVEL 3 “GO NOW!” EVACUATIONS. These orders are in effect for:

  • All areas east of the BNSF RR tracks to Forest Service Roads 9736, 22 (Finley Butte Rd)
  • All areas north of the Deschutes/Klamath line north to just north of the Newberry Estates division

LEVEL 2 “GET READY” EVACUATIONS. These are in effect for:

  • Areas immediately east of Hwy 97 north of the line even with the Hwy 97/Burgess Rd north include the Drafter Rd area
  • Industrial areas on Russel Rd from Reed Rd south to the end of Russel Rd
  • Areas north of Hwy 31 between Hwy 97 east to the BNSF RR tracks
  • Areas north of FS Rd 21 (Paulina-East Lake Rd) to Paulina Creek west of FS Road 9736

LEVEL 1 “BE READY” NOTIFICATIONS. These are currently in effect for:

  • The Residential area immediately west of Hwy 97
  • North of Burgess Rd
  • East of the Little Deschutes River

COST-TO-DATE. The Cost-to-Date for fire suppression and containment efforts are:

  • 1.6 Million Dollars
  • A grant has been received from the FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency which has fulfilled the State of Oregon’s request and authorized federal funds to help with firefighting costs called a Fire Management Assistance Grant.
