LATERAL PARAMEDIC/FIREFIGHTER
Pay Range for 2012: $5,374 – $6,601 (Current Contract in Mediation)

Personnel: The Mukilteo Fire Department is staffed by 29.5 full-time career personnel, including 25 in IAFF Local 3482.
Fire Stations: Two operational stations staffed with full-time cross-staffing fire and EMS vehicles.
Fire Apparatus: 3 engines, 2 EMS BLS, 1 EMS ALS, and 4 staff vehicles.
Services Provided: Fire Suppression, Advanced Life Support (ALS), EMS Basic Life Support (BLS), Hazardous Materials and Technical Rescue responses, Life Safety Inspections, and Community Education Services to the community
QUALIFICATION & LICENSES: Must possess current Washington State or National Registry EMP-P Paramedic Certification; IFSAC Firefighter 1 Certification, ACLS certified, PALS certified, and 12 consecutive months experience full-time during the past 36 months; 21 years of age; U.S. Citizen; Washington State Driver’s License within 30 days of hire; High School graduate or GED.

Examinations for the position may consist of any combination of written, performance, and oral exams to evaluate the applicant’s skills, training, and experience for the position. Examinations for the position may consist of any combination of written, performance, and oral exams to evaluate the applicant’s skills, training, and experience for the position. After successfully passing all Civil Service requirements, you will be numerically ranked on a Civil Service eligibility list based on a composite score from the Oral Board. Your name may remain on this list for 6 (six) months or until the list is revoked by the Civil Service Commission.
4. You will receive written notification of all changes in the status of your application by the Civil Service Examiner.
5. When there is an opening in the Department, the Mukilteo Fire Department will process the top candidates from the eligibility lists. Background screening will be conducted, which could result in an offer of employment.
6. If hired, the applicant will serve a 12 month probationary period and must successfully complete certification as a Journeyman Firefighter for Washington State.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Union represented position in IAFF Local 3482
Salary: Pay Range/month for 2012: $5,374 – 6,601 (Current contract in Mediation)
Benefits:
Vacation: First through 5th year – earn 104 hours per year (40-hour employees)
– earn 145.6 hours per year (24-hour employees)
However, at set intervals the rate graduates to
– 160 hours maximum per year for 40-hour employees
– 216 hours maximum per year for 24-hour employees
Sick Leave: Accrue sick leave at 8 hours per month
Holidays: 6 paid shift holidays a year with up to three cashed out
Retirement: Firefighter/Paramedics are enrolled in the LEOFF II (Law Enforcement Officer and Fire Fighters) State Retirement System
Insurance: Firefighter/Paramedics and families are covered by medical, dental, life insurance and vision plans offered through the City.
Deferred Compensation: In lieu of Social Security contributions, the Employer contributes an amount equal to 2.22% of the employee’s base salary monthly to the MEBT plan. An additional amount up to 2.22% of the employee’s monthly base salary will be matched one dollar from the Employer for every two dollars contributed by the employee (no more than 4.44% will be contributed by the Employer).
Education: City offers education tuition reimbursement and compensation.
