Local Militia in Area Alert: “The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a local militia around the town of Mariposa. The Public should be aware that the militia has not been activated or requested to act for any purpose by the Sheriff’s Office or any agency working on the Oak Fire. We are not unsupportive of community groups helping those affected by the Oak Fire, however, it is important that we inform the community of resources available to them by the incident and Mariposa County. The control and command structure was put in place for this very purpose and is important for the safety of the public and our staff. We had received multiple notifications inquiring why we had “activated that militia” this post what intended to clarify that we have not activated them, they are acting on their own courteous accord. We appreciate their efforts and any efforts of other private groups or entities helping our community.”
