Update 3: April 27, 2023, Thursday

A wildfire designated as the Great Lakes Fire is still burning in the Craven County area, which was determined to have been sparked by an undetermined cause on April 19, 2023, around 1914 hours.

The fire is burning about one-mile south-southeast of New Bern, North Carolina.

There is about 232 total personnel with Unified Command consisting of Pat Pearson, with the SA Red IMT unit, and Mike Cheek, with NC State.

There have been about 32,400 acres of chaparral, dormant brush, and hardwood slash as fire fuels. There is an approximate 30% containment status.

Fire behavior includes minimal activity with backing, creeping, and smoldering.
