CASTAIC, CALIFORNIA

A new wildfire has ignited again in the Los Angeles County area, this time off of Lake Hughes Road, north of Castaic Reservoir Road in beautiful Castaic, California. This is what we know at this time, the wildfire broke out during RED FLAG WARNINGS in the area on January 22, 2025, at 1053 hours PT. (reported by CAL FIRE).

Currently, there are several agencies in Unified Command, which include the Angeles National Forest (U.S. Forest Service), the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LA Co FD), the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the California Highway Patrol (CHP – Southern Division).

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, it started as a brush fire, and a presser was released by the agency at 1130 hours PT, as Incident #0774 on Lake Hughes Road.

At this time, the LAFD had four (five-engine) strike teams en route to assist at the fire, which would have totaled 20 fire engines. One of the strike teams comprises engines from Culver City, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica in addition to one LAFD engine.

There were also two dozer teams and additional command staff also responding.

Currently, the wildfire has a critical forward spread and has burned about 5,054 acres. There is a 0% containment status.

If you live near this area, please heed to Fire and Law Enforcement Officials’ request to evacuate when necessary.

Now, is the time to start preparing, in case you have to leave your home without much notice or just be preparing for the WHAT IF, should be started as you are reading this post.

There are reports that the fire may be threatening those who are in the community of Castaic, a suburb of Los Angeles and home to almost 19,000 residents.


ABOUT LAKE HUGHES ROAD AREA

The Lake Hughes Road is a beautiful 24-mile roadway, off of I-5 with twists and turns, which runs north and south from Castaic to Lake Hughes. It was built in 1936, by the California Conservation Corps.

There have been many reports of mud, rock, and tree incidents over the roadways in the last few years.

This closure was necessary when the fire and storm mudflow occurred in 2022. This is said to be on Lake Hughes Road, along with Ridge Route Road and Pine Canyon Roads.
