START DATE:  5/1/2016.

ACRES.   85,000 hectares or 210,039 acres.

PERSONNEL.  1110 Firefighters.

FIRE BEHAVIOR.  ** HIGH ** 18 new starts across Alberta on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Total of 49 Wildfires are burning.  7 are out of control. 12 being held. 23 under control.  7 turned over to responsible parties.

SAFE / UNTOUCHED.  Thickwood, Confederation Way neighbors, NEW airport facility and Fire Hall 5 / Prairie Creek.

NO UPDATES RECEIVED.  Abasand, Timberlea, Wood Buffalo, Waterways, Draper, Grayling Terrace and Beacon Hill.

STRUCTURE PROTECTION.  Fire crews are treating the Birchwood Trails as a HIGH priority.  They are working to protect the area.

WEATHER.  Dry and hot.  Gusting winds.

1110 Firefighters assigned to the incident along with the support of: 145 helicopters, 138 pieces of heavy equipment and 22 Air Tankers.


CALGARY FIRE.  Unknown exact numbers but one post suggested a minimum of 30 firefighters.


STATE OF EMERGENCY.  Provincial State of Emergency declared 5/4/2016.

BOIL WATER ALERT.  Alberta Health Services has issued a boil-water advisory for the area of Fort McMurray including Anzac, Conklin, Gregoire Lake Provincial Park, Janvier, Fort McKay and nearby work camps that use water from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Water Treatment Plant as a precautionary measure.

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT.  Mental health support is available by calling Alberta’s 24-hour Mental Health Help Line at 1-877-303-2642.

INSURANCE PROPERTY CLAIMS.   Anyone who has suffered a property loss should contact their insurance provider. They may also be entitled to additional living expenses under their insurance policies.

MOOSE HAVEN LODGE.  All guests/staff have exited and moved to Lac La Biche.

ANZAC. GREGOIRE LAKE ESTATES.  FORT MCMURRAY FIRST NATION.  Mandatory evacuation issued as of 5/4/2016 2150 MDT.  RCMP went door-to-door notifications and to evacuate by 2300 Hours.  Buses departed at midnight.

SAFE AND WELL REGISTRATION. All evacuees (whether they’re staying at hotels, in campgrounds or with family or friends) need to register by calling the Red Cross at 1-888-350-6070. This will ensure officials know how to reach you and verify you got out safely. Evacuees staying at reception centres can register reception centre staff.



GREEN AREAS.  Homes near green areas due to sparks and high winds creating spot fires.

ACTIVE FIRE.  The following areas are currently facing active fire:  Stone Creek – Navea.  North Abasand and it’s road tower & cell tower under serious threat.  Anzac and Gregoire Lake Estates facing active fire.

DAMAGED – Unknown extent. Hotel at Fort McMurray..  Located at Old Airport Terminal.

DESTROYED.  1600 Homes destroyed in Fort McMurray, Lac Ste Anne Co, Mackenzie County.  The Government states due to logistics, they are unable to provide house numbers or street addresses.

MINOR DAMAGE.  Airport facility outer buildings .  Primary infrastructure is still intact.

SERIOUS DAMAGE.  Old Airport Road.  Structures seriously damaged.

SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE.  30% significant damaged to homes in the Saprae Creek area.

DAMAGED.  Downtown Fort McMurray has 1 structure damaged. N of Hangingstone River is left untouched.

SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE.  Prospect area.  Fire crews have stopped the fire from crossing over Confederation Way.
