A wildfire is burning in Benton County but is quickly approaching the Yakima County line in Washington State. The fast moving fire was reported at 1600 hours at 1,000 acres with a 0% containment status.
The fire is burning near the Hanford Nuclear site and said to be about five miles south of the Vernita Bridge.
At 1605 hours, Washington State Department of Natural Resources or commonly called WA DNR Fire, dispatched through their communications center the following resources: AA-10F BATT-603 CREW-6201 DIV-802 E-6695 BLM E-6696 BLM E-852 FB-205 FB-244 H-339 H-343 HT613CK PATROL-603 PATROL-604 SE-LAWSON T-162.
Fire resources have responded from Benton, Franklin and Walla Walla Counties.
This is fire has a high rapid rate of spread with running. It was currently at 8,000 acres around 1815 hours PDT. Fire fuels include Grass, brush and slash.
SR 24 closed from SR 241 at the Silver Dollar to the Hanford gate.
SR 240 is closed at the Hanford Gate to the SR 225 to West Richland.
SR 24 is closed from the Hanford Gate north to Vernita.
There is a RED FLAG WARNING in effect on Thursday, July 18, 2019, from 1400 hours to 2100 hours due to gusty winds and higher temps.
