UPDATE 1 – JUNE 28, 2020

A 4-alarm wildfire is burning off of SR111 and West 4th in Niland (Imperial County), California that has spread to several homes and now to an apartment complex. There are reports of palm trees inside the apartment complex courtyard that are now ablaze.

The fire is moving east towards power lines.  All power has been cut to the City.

The City of Niland is beginning to evacuate but some people are refusing to leave, making it difficult for the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Officials to ensure residents’ safety.

An out-of-county strike has been ordered by the IC.

Some units from this fire have diverted to another Palm tree fire located at a home in the 8000 block of  Commercial Avenue, which is endangering two trees the reporting party’s residence.  This resident is supposed to be evacuating but is one of many refusing to leave, now his house is on fire.  A Sheriff Deputy and a Fire company is en route to the scene.

Per Scanner Feed, Fire and Law Enforcement were responding to fireworks calls.  A third fire call came in for a reported fire at the 600 block of Fleming. Fire Station 1 immediately was dispatched.
