Incident Summary | Approximately at 1807 Hours PDT this evening, a vegetation fire broke out about three (3) hours ago.  The fire was about two acres at the time.

Location | Location North of the De La Rosa neighborhood in the Sterling and Foothills in California.

Here is the timeline of the fire pieced together via social media postings.

1847 | Additional firefighting personnel and equipment arriving now, Rialto FD and Redlands FD.  Fire was reported as being a stubborn fire and smoke blowing to the SE.

1849 | San Bernardino County FD and San Bernardino NF are Unified Command.  20 acres 0% containment burning in area of Borea Canyon.

1850 | IC states:  17 engines, 2 handcrews, 2 helos, 2 air tankers, 2 tenders, mult overhead assigned w/ additional resources en route.

1851 | Fire started in SB city and is now burning on forest. No immediate structure threat. PIO avail on scene at ICP.

1852 | 20 acres scorched. 0% contained.

1900 | IC reports fixed wing have retardant line around fire. Firefighters making good progress. 25 acres.

1923 | San Bernardino states:  Too early to determine cause of fire or poss connection to the homeless encampment.

2005 | IC states:  Forward rate of spread stopped. Fire holding at 30 acres. Crews to remain overnight to construct and reinforce lines.

California Begins Recovery Process | Update 4

We apologize for not being able to update in the last 24 hours due to an illness.  We are recovering in the same sense (well, kinda) as the State of California.

Here is a brief update for Thursday, February 23, 2017.

GREAT NEWS

A video was circulating around Social Media by a news crew showing multiple horses standing in deep waters but not a follow-up to that story as to what was happening with their rescue.

People took to Twitter after the story and the video broke angering many of them.

Well, good news.

One source is reporting that 28 horses were rescued but more still continue to need assistance.

DAMAGE

SPILLWAY STATUS

Oroville Spillway:  Flows dropping from 60k to 50k cfs by 2 pm today to remove debris from diversion pool. Monitoring of spillway continues. (CADWR)

CLOSURES

Fremont:  Palomares Rd remains closed to all traffic, between Palo Verde Rd in Castro Valley and Niles Canyon Rd (CA-84) in Fremont. Due to mudslide. (Fremont PD)

Hwy 267 – Brockway Summit

I-80 Near Summit

  • Closed: I-80 closed due to blizzard conditions over summit. Caltrans crews trying to clear snow. E/B drivers stuck in Colfax. (Media)
  • Closed:  Vehicle traffic released on EB I-80 & Hwy 20. Trucks being turned at Applegate. Chain controls remain in effect. Take it slow! (CAL Trans District #3 @ 2230 PST)

Alameda County

  •  Flash Flood Warning issued for Niles Canyon area near Alameda Creek. (Fremont PD)

  • Mandatory Evacuations:  The area in San Jose subject to Mandatory Evacuation due to flooding along Coyote Creek has expanded. The area is along Coyote Creek, in the Coyote Creek 100 year flood zone plus approximately 250 feet, running from north of 280 to south of 101.  (SanJose.gov)

Preparedness

High stream flows in Coyote Creek are expected to cause low-lying areas near Coyote Creek to flood. Peak flows from the Anderson Dam spillway are expected on Tuesday, and this will affect the downstream areas of Coyote Creek .

Hurricane Matthew Whipping Bahamas | Update 3

HURRICANE MATTHEW WHIPPING BAHAMAS NOW

INCIDENT SUMMARY

Hurricane Matthew is now whipping up some intensive and dangerous winds that are throwing debris around and snapping trees into two according to those reporting as of almost one hour ago (0940 hours EDT).

The Hurricane is said to be on the path to hitting Florida some time day going up the Coast.  At 0800 hours EDT, a weather advisory was issued.  The Hurricane is moving NW at 12 mph with max sustained winds at 125 mph.

Over 1 Million people have been evacuated from South Carolina alone.

Reports of almost 20 deaths in Haiti are attributed to this Storm.

HURRICANE MATTHEW WORST IN A DECADE

INCIDENT SUMMARY

A Category 4 hurricane has slammed and caused catastrophic damages to Cuba and Haiti.  The hurricane began building its character on September 29th as a Category 5 but losing some wind speeds downgraded to a Category 4.

Cuba and Haiti were hit hard.  Lots of flooding, mudslides and everything residents are now gone.

Now, the Hurricane is heading towards Florida at a rapid rate of speed and due to cause some terrifying moments for all those on the Coast and its path.  One of the worst storms felt in a 10 years.
