Nineteen Prescott Granite Mountain Hot Shots lost their lives today during the Heroic actions reported by several media outlets. They placed themselves between fleeing civilians and a fast approaching fire, so that residents could escape the flames.
Several sources are now reporting 19 firefighters have been killed in the Line-of-Duty, while battling the blaze taking over the whole City of Yarnell. Twenty were originally reported as being unaccounted for. A plane flew over the area found the firefighters completely surrounded by fire. Several fire crews were sent in to locate and rescue them.
Upon arrival, they found 19 of the 20 had died. One surviving firefighter, was found to have burns over 75-percent of his body.
One of the tweets by an Arizonan fire source stated several fire crews were sent to locate the 20 missing firefighters and that a plane had spotted them surrounded by fire, down. There was an urgent need to get to them to safety and evac’d quickly.
Eight were reported being involved in a serious incident and taken to a nearby hospital, but when they were found – 19 of them had been killed, with one surviving.
It is truly tragic losing one firefighter and the worst of all worse news to lose more than a dozen especially at one incident.
The fire at this time of reporting is still a burning inferno with many residents fleeing for their lives. The cause of this fire was from lightning.
We uplift the sole survivor to the one Above and only He can help our firefighter heal from this tragic event. We offer support, love, a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, anything – to the families, friends, brothers and sisters and to those who have been affected by this tragic fire that has so far taken way too much away.
“We are truly sorry Arizona for your loss of your firefighters. This has left a huge hole in the Fire Family’s heart and impacted our souls. RIP to the brothers and sisters lost today. WE WILL NEVER FORGET.”
