Washington Wildfire: #LesBlairFire Grows Overight

FINLEY, Wash. – A wildfire that is located on Les Blair Road and about eight miles south of Finley is said to have been started near the Railroad tracks at mile marker 212 from an unknown cause.

The fire broke out just after 1600 hours prompting local and State resources to the fire ground, including a State Fire mobilization that included at least a Wildland Strike from Walla Walla County.

Here is a timeline of the fire incident that is still burning this evening.  Crews are still on-scene working to secure the remaining containment lines and other fire activities.

6/5/2018 – 1317 hours

  • The fire acreage has been corrected due to more accurate mapping
  • Fire is at 875 acres
  • 85 containment
  • Burn out operations successful in north end
  • Air resources made several drops, crews still working to gain full containment by end of shift in the southern end

0903 hours

  • Fire growth increased overnight to about 700-800 acres
  • 50% containment
  • The Railroad is the biggest exposure
  • SE corner is range land was the most active
  • They planned to do a burn out for full containment by the end of their shift

0400 hours

  • Kittitas Fire District 1 Strike team leaves, heading to the fire incident
  • KFD1 sends 1 strike leader and 1 brush truck as part of the strike team
  • They meet up with resources from Yakima and Klickitat Counties

6/4/2018 – 2000 hours

  • 500 acres, 80% containment
  • Expected 100% containment by 6/5/2018 @ 1800 hours
  • 3 aircraft, plus Walla Walla County Strike team as part of State mobe approved at 1645 hours
  • Minimal crews will remain overnight to do fire watch
  • Cause still under investigation but possibly caused by a train

1850 hours

  • Walla Walla County – Wildland Strike Team dispatched

1616 hours

  • Brush fire in the Les Blair Rd area, south of Finley
  • 300 acres on the bluff overlooking river
  • Pasco Fire boat, Benton County Fire District 4
  • Fire determined to have started near RR tracks marker 212 but unknown cause
  • FIU still investigating cause
  • No injuries reported

1608 hours

  • Resources include:  Pasco FD, Benton County FD1 and 4
  • WA State EMD activated
  • 2-alarm initiated
