TAHOE NATIONAL FOREST, CAL.

A new wildfire is burning in the Tahoe National Forest which started at approximately at 1535 hours on Sunday, July 7, 2024. It is burning in the Royal Gorge area.

According to CAL FIRE Officials, the fire was ignited when this was an escaped campfire found by hikers in the area.

Resources on the scene of the incident are reporting active with a rapid rate of spread.

The fire has burned about 100 acres and since this is a hard-to-access and remote terrain, it could easily have a higher number of scorched lands before resources can get water and retardant over the fireline.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and Tahoe National Forest are in Unified Command.
