Firefighter/Paramedic
The City of Bend Fire Department will only accept FireTEAM Video Test results that are administered and certified by National Testing Network (NTN) for Firefighter Paramedic. Valid test results are required for the December 5, 2014 closing date. If your FireTEAM or CPAT test results are set to expire before the December 5, 2014, you must retest.
The closing date for testing with NTN is December 5, 2014. Interested/eligible candidates are strongly encouraged to complete the FireTEAM and CPAT testing at their earliest convenience.
Job Description
City of Bend Fire Department firefighter/paramedics are expected to perform and execute a wide range of emergency medical, firefighting, hazmat, and rescue duties. In addition, firefighter/paramedics regularly participate in vehicle maintenance, facility maintenance, multidiscipline training, fire prevention, public education, and a multitude of other assigned duties. Salary, Benefits, and Conditions of Employment
The monthly salary (including 9.5% paramedic incentive) for an entry-level Step 1 firefighter/paramedic is $4,889.17
The monthly salary (including 9.5% paramedic incentive) for an entry-level Step 4 firefighter/paramedic is $5,663.34. Entry-level Step 4 firefighter/paramedic pay is given to lateral transfer firefighter/paramedics with three (3) consecutive years of experience as a full-time, career firefighter/paramedic with an emergency service agency whose primary responsibility is fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials mitigation, public education, and fire prevention.
Benefit package includes: paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, group medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, and Oregon State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 939 represents entry-level firefighter/paramedic positions.

Medical: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1582 Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments NFPA 1582.
Necessary Certifications:
At time of application with the City of Bend Fire Department, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Two forms of identification indicating legal ability to live/work in the United States.
- Eighteen years of age.
- Possess a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED).
- Current, active Oregon State EMT – Paramedic license issued by Oregon State Health Division (OHSD)
- Provisional OHSD – EMT – Paramedic will not be accepted.

- Valid driver’s license; to include:
*Licensed for two (2) years.
*Insurable by the City of Bend’s insurance carrier.

A cover letter and resume, which may be uploaded with your NEOGOV application, are also required. Candidates eligible for Veterans Preference must include a required City of Bend Veterans Preference Form and appropriate certification to receive Veterans’ Preference points.
