#PleasantFire Explodes, Triples in Size | 3

PLEASANT FIRE

Incident Summary | A wildfire is burning on Pleasant Valley Dam Road and Highway 395, north of Bishop, California has tripled in size and still on course towards Laws Museum.  The fire has turned from 900 acres burned to 2,800 acres destroyed!  The fire is said to have started around 1412 hours on Sunday, February 18, 2018.    Strong winds have been hampering fire suppression efforts.

Cause | Cause is unknown and under investigation.

Command | Unified  Command is made up of CAL FIRE – San Bernardino Unit, Inyo County Sheriff’s Office and CHP.

Resources | As of Sunday, there were 90 firefighters tasked with fire suppression efforts but as of Monday would explode alongside the fire to 400 personnel!  Fire engines have doubled from yesterday’s 25 to 50 and  from two fire crews to 20, while boosting  two bulldozers to four.

Evacuations | Evacuations are in effect for Meadow Creek area, Pleasant Valley campground, Rudolph Ranch, HIghlands, Glenwood, Rite-Aid Complex, Bear Creek, Dixon Lane,  (All housing areas between) North Sierra Highway, Dixon Lane, Brockman, Five Bridges, Fish Slough and Laws. | UPDATE as of 1045 hours PST | The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office will reassess evacuation orders at 1600 hours due to additional safety concerns.

Shelter | An evacuation shelter for evacuees and their animals is located at the Bishop Tri-County Fairgrounds located at 1234 Fair Street in Bishop, California 93514.  Their phone number is 760-813-3588.

Closures | Hwy 6 closed between Hwy 395 and the Nevada  State line; Pleasant Valley Road; Brockman Road and Chalkbluff Road.

Damage Assessment | There have been no homes reported as damaged or destroyed, nor any injuries to civilians or fire crews as being reported reported.
