HURRICANE MICHAEL

Incident Summary

It has been one week and beyond since the expected Hurricane Michael event caused widespread damage and destruction of States such as Florida, Georgia and Alabama.  Most of the major devastation is on the Coast but some other smaller towns also were impacted severely.

Some of the significant events as noted via mainstream media and other sources:

  • National Guard has been activated to assist with Law Enforcement
  • Infrastructure, such as communications is still spotty as hosts work to rebuild their major power grids that some are reporting as completely wiped out.

#TrumpTowerFire Kills 1, Injures 4 | 1

MANHATTAN, NY | A 4-Alarm fire from an unknown cause ripped through the 50th story of the Trump Tower this afternoon killing one civilian and injuring four firefighters.  Onlookers shot video and photos spreading like wildfire all over Social Media.

FIRE TIMELINE

1427 PDT – MAN 2-ALARM 721 5 AVE, HIGH RISE (TRUMP TOWER) FIRE ON 50TH FLR.

1524 PDT – Due to a fire at Trump Tower in Manhattan, expect police and FDNY in the area of 5th Ave/W.57 St. Expect traffic and street closures nearby by due to emergency vehicles.

1527 PDT – Members are on scene of a 3-alarm fire at 721 5th Ave Manhattan. There are currently no injuries reported.

1530 PDT – Current street closures due to the fire at Trump Tower.   5th Ave between W. 55 St to W. 57 St and W. 56 St between Madison Ave to 5th Ave.

1556 PDT – Members remain on scene of a 4-alarm fire, 721 5th Ave in Manhattan. There is currently one serious injury to a civilian reported.

1628 PDT –

1657 PDT –  Fire brought under control.

1658 PDT – We found fire on the 50th floor of the building. The apartment was entirely on fire. Members pushed in heroically, they were knocking down the fire and found one occupant of the apartment who is in critical condition.

1659 PDT – We had many floors to search, and stairways, and right now the only civilian injury is to the occupant of that apartment. There are four Firefighters with non-life-threatening injuries.

1659 PDT (2) – This was a very difficult fire. As you can imagine, the apartment is quite large, we are 50 stories up. The rest of the building had a considerable amount of smoke. 200 Firefighters and EMS members are on scene.

1700 PDT – The fire is still not considered to be under control because of the smoke conditions on all the floors above, says FDNY Fire Commissioner Nigro gives update on 4th alarm, 721 5th Ave Manhattan.

INCIDENT SUMMARY | 1 person has succumbed to his injuries, 4 firefighters were injured and have non-life threatening injuries.

FIRE BUILDING HISTORY

January 8, 2018 | A fire in the building’s HVAC system injuring two civilians and one firefighter (non-life threatening injuries) and caused smoke to billow from the room.  It reportedly started around 0700 on Monday morning.  It was stated that some debris fell on to a firefighter and an engineer breathed in some smoke.  This fire took about one hour to put out.

SOCIAL MEDIA | #TrumpTowerFire #NYFire

Senator Chuck Schumer (NY):  “Thinking tonight of those lost and injured in the fire that broke out in Trump Tower today, and incredibly thankful to the FDNY for their work that kept more NYers from harm.”

Editor’s Comments:  While there are very hateful things said on Social Media, we don’t always agree to agree with things going on in this world either but this is fire related and this is what we report on.  There was one person who was reportedly killed from their fire related injuries and four FDNY firefighters injured. We need to rally around the civilian’s life and family, as well as the firefighters, their family and our Fire Family.

When everyone runs out of a building or are trapped, these amazing and highly trained firefighters run in with a cache of personnel supporting them.  We need to recognize them for stopping this fire from spreading and extending beyond its current position.” LR Swenson, Editor

New TV Show “Night Watch” on A&E’s Thursday Nights a Hit Amongst Viewers

New Orleans, Louisiana | A&E’s reality TV show, Night Watch on Thursday nights at 10pm PST / 9pm CST is about Paramedics, Police Officers and Firefighters in action working the mean streets of New Orleans.

Following the Paramedics lives of Holly, Nick, Dan and others gives a front seat into how it is like on the streets dealing with MVAs [they say MVCs], fires and shootings.  Recently, we were witness to a Police Officer being shot multiple times and seeing what it is like firsthand how Officers are subject to the intensity of stress, adrenaline rushes and the violence they face daily.

The life of a First Responder can be stressful and A&E shows us tidbits how they deal with it from working in the gym working on getting stronger to the close-knit family relationships shown in the Firehouse to Medics ending the night shift.  This is what it is all about and how they support each other.  Having a sense of humor doesn’t hurt as well and can relieve a lot of stress and heartache seen.

In happier parts on the show, we were able to see the lives saved by Medics from a person being stabbed to an asthmatic toddler.  Some critics have said this is all staged and scripted but we say otherwise.

Fans of the show have begun following Medics Holly @nightwatch_holly, Dan @nightwatch_Dan, Nick @nightwatch_Nick and others. We are still working to get the names of others to see if they have Night Watch Twitter pages to follow.

Others have said they are not the actual Medics/actors on the show but are people “pretending” to represent them.

Our belief is that they are truly who they say they are.  We are hoping to look into their Lives a little more closely through an informal interview as to why and how they became compassionate First Responders in this profession.

We’ll keep you all up-to-date.

Here in Washington State, the TV show is on Channel 52 [Comcast] or you can watch them ON DEMAND.  If you are not a fan or don’t know what this TV show is all about, you better turn it on and check them out!

Thank You to the Men and Women who are committed to train, are compassionate in what they do and to never let the job take you.  You all are Heroes in our Book and we can’t say Thank You even for what you all do. Keep up the great work.

This is definitely a hit amongst Public Safety folks and those who love/support them.  And, we are hoping there is no therapy because we are addicted.

Be Safe Friends.

Wildfire Update: RoundFire Increases Resources

Inyo County, California | Round Fire is located off of Highway 395 at Sherwin Grade.

As of 0200 this morning, the forward spread of the fire has been completely stopped due to a high amount of rainfall.  However, due to downed power lines and venting propane tanks, it is making it very difficult for firefighters to re-enter the area.  Danger looms, which is not a good thing.

One injury has been reported and we are unsure if it is a firefighter or civilian.

There are currently 200 personnel on the fire with 47 fire engines, 2 dozers and 29 fire crews.

The cause is still under investigation but it is known the fire started at 1607 hours on Friday, February 6, 2015.
